“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” ~Matthew 5:14-15
God’s people, the Church, are instructed to be set apart through the sanctification of the Holy Spirit. Just as the illumination of a lighthouse stands out, to provide guidance and warning of danger hidden within the darkness, the church holds the same responsibility. But many churches today are no longer separating themselves from the world, but rather blending in with it. It can oftentimes be hard to distinguish the difference between a modern “contemporary” church service and a rock concert mixed with a trendy motivational seminar. These new age churches can offer you a fun, entertaining experience with an emotional high, but leave you just as spiritually dry and empty as you were before.
At Grace Baptist, we still believe that church should be just that….church. Whether it’s Sunday morning, Sunday evening, or Wednesday evening services, you will find that we still practice the traditional “biblical” church services. Every service begins with prayer and worship. We still use hymns of faith and praise to generate an attitude of reverence toward the Holy God. We pour our hearts and souls out to Him, and then allow Him to pour His heart and soul into us through the preaching and teaching of His Holy Word.
Many church sermons today are little more than a self-help motivational speech. They use watered down truths mixed with entertaining storytelling to focus on building self-esteem and temporal happiness that stir up “feel good” emotions, but have little to no eternal value. But Jesus says in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”Grace Baptist still believes in preaching the Word. We believe that it is the timeless truths of God’s Holy Word that brings conviction and holds the power to change lives. Each service offers a different series of week to week, in-depth studies from different books of the Bible that will challenge, direct and help you grow in your daily walk with Jesus Christ. Trends and fads will always come and go, but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
